Early Life and Education
Patricia Matcin was born in Chișinău, Moldova. Her parents were both professional classical musicians. Because of their job, she spent her early years near Moscow, Russia, and then traveled all over the world with them on their tours.
Traveling so much meant she had to attend many different schools. She said this was a challenge, but it also allowed her to see some of Europe's most famous theaters. Because of her travels, English became her main language.
When she was eight, her parents encouraged her to learn music. She started taking piano and violin lessons. At age ten, her parents separated, and she moved to Naples, Italy, with her mother. In Naples, she attended a special high school called a liceo classico.
For college, she moved to Milan and studied fashion business at the Istituto Marangoni. After finishing her studies, she moved to London in 2018 to work on her music.
Career Journey
Starting in Fashion
While studying in Milan, Patricia began working as a model. A friend invited her to a Roberto Cavalli fashion show. There, photographers took many pictures of her, which appeared on fashion websites. This got her noticed by a casting director, who helps find people for jobs in fashion.
She changed her last name to Manfield because it sounded more British. As Patricia Manfield, she worked with top fashion brands like Versace, Fendi, Dior, and Giorgio Armani. She also started a fashion website called The Atelier.
Patricia traveled to different fashion week events in cities like Paris and New York. She became one of the most popular street fashion bloggers. Her Instagram profile now has over 403,000 followers.
Even with her success in fashion, her main goal was always music. She secretly wrote and recorded her own songs. She also posted cover songs on social media. Her cover of Rihanna's song ... Better Have My Money was shared by the magazine Harper's Bazaar and even liked by Rihanna herself.
Becoming Hēir
After college, Patricia moved to London to focus completely on music. She began working with producers and a manager to create her first album. She chose the stage name Hēir as a tribute to her musician parents.
On April 12, 2018, she released her first single, Threads. A few weeks later, she released another song, Love Song. Soon after, she signed a deal with Sony Music Italy.
Her first single with Sony, Soundtrack, came out on May 31, 2019. Hēir wrote the song herself. She said it's about growing up and about girls standing up for themselves. The music video was inspired by the cyberpunk style.
On November 15, 2019, she released her next single, My Love. It's a powerful love song that mixes indie rock, R&B, and pop sounds.
First EP and New Music
On March 11, 2020, Hēir released her first EP, Daddy Issues. She had worked on this project for over three years. The EP includes eight songs, such as Soundtrack, My Love, and Spike Lee. The EP has been very successful, with over two million streams on Spotify.
In 2021 and 2022, she released more singles, including Anyone and Vertigo. The music video for Anyone was filmed in the Quartieri Spagnoli neighborhood of Naples. The video for Vertigo was filmed in the beautiful Toledo metro station.
A New Chapter
In 2023, Hēir began working with new producers. She released her second EP, Is That All There Is, on April 7, 2023. This EP has five songs, including the singles Rewind and Landslide. Later that year, on June 16, she released another single called Ex Machina.
Musical Style and Influences
Hēir's music is a mix of different styles. It blends indie, pop, R&B, and electronic sounds. This creates a unique style called alternative pop.
She is inspired by many artists, including Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent, and the band Nirvana. She is also influenced by the traditional music of Naples, called Neapolitan song, and by music from the 1990s.
