Henderson, once known as Henderson Island, is a small community in Adams County, Colorado, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but an unincorporated community. Henderson has its own U.S. Post Office and the ZIP Code 80640. Some parts of the Henderson area have become part of nearby cities like Commerce City, Brighton, and Thornton.
The post office in Henderson has been open since 1894. The community was named after a person called John D. "Colonel Jack" Henderson.
Where is Henderson Located?
Henderson is found at these coordinates: 39°55′18″N 104°52′06″W / 39.92167°N 104.86833°W. The area once known as Henderson Island is now home to the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds. This park is a place where people can enjoy outdoor activities and events.
Henderson Today
Even though some parts of Henderson have been joined with other cities, a few original buildings still stand. These are located along Brighton Road, north of 120th Avenue. The Henderson Congregation Church, now called Henderson Community Church, is one of the oldest buildings. It has been a part of the community for over 100 years.
Henderson was also the retirement home of Ralphie IV. Ralphie IV was one of the mascots for the University of Colorado Buffaloes sports teams. She retired after serving for 10 years and lived out her life in Henderson.
