Henry Cromwell, 2nd Baron Cromwell (born before March 1, 1538 – died November 20, 1592) was an important English nobleman. He lived during the time of Elizabeth I, a famous queen of England.
Henry was the son of Gregory Cromwell, 1st Baron Cromwell and Elizabeth Seymour. His grandfather was Thomas Cromwell, 1st earl of Essex, who was a very powerful advisor to King Henry VIII. Henry was also the nephew of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, who helped rule England for a while. This made Henry a first cousin to King Edward VI.

Henry's Family and Early Life
Henry Cromwell was the oldest son of Gregory Cromwell, the first Baron Cromwell. His mother was Elizabeth Seymour. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir John Seymour.
Henry was born in 1538 and was likely baptized at Hampton Court Palace. The Lady Mary, who later became Queen Mary I, was probably his godmother. After he was born, his parents moved to a place called Lewes Priory in Sussex. Later, they lived at Leeds Castle in Kent.
His Grandfather's Titles
Henry's grandfather, Thomas Cromwell, was a very important person. King Henry VIII made him a Baron in 1536 and an Earl in 1540. These were rewards for his hard work as the King's main advisor. However, Thomas Cromwell lost these titles in 1540.
Later, on December 18, 1540, Henry's father, Gregory, was given a new title: the 1st Baron Cromwell. This was a new title, not the old one his father had lost. When his father died in 1551, Henry became the 2nd Baron Cromwell. He was still young when his father passed away.
His Mother's New Marriage
Henry's mother, Elizabeth, married again in 1554. She married Sir John Paulet. He later became Lord St John. Elizabeth died in 1568.
Education and Siblings
Henry Cromwell went to St John's College, Cambridge for his education in 1553. He had a brother named Thomas Cromwell. He also had a half-brother, Sir Henry Ughtred. His brother-in-law was William Paulet.
Marriage and Children
Before 1560, Henry Cromwell married Mary. She was the daughter of his stepfather, John Paulet. Henry and Mary had three children:
- Edward Cromwell, 3rd Baron Cromwell (born around 1559 – died 1607): Edward married twice. First, he married Elizabeth Upton, and they had a daughter named Elizabeth. Second, he married Frances Rugge, and they had a son, Thomas Cromwell, 1st Earl of Ardglass, and two daughters. Edward was knighted in Ireland in 1599.
- Sir Gregory Cromwell: Gregory married Frances Griffin. He was knighted by King James I in 1603.
- Katharine Cromwell (died 1621): Katharine married Sir Sir Lionel Tollemache, 1st Baronet in 1581. They had a son named Sir Lionel Tollemache.
Death
Henry's wife, Mary, died on October 10, 1592, and was buried at Launde Abbey in Leicestershire. Henry himself died a month later, on November 20, 1592. He was buried on December 4 in the chapel at Launde Abbey.
