John Paulet, 2nd Marquess of Winchester (born around 1510 – died 4 November 1576) was an important English nobleman. He held the title of Marquess of Winchester, which is a high rank in the British peerage system. He was the oldest son of William Paulet, 1st Marquess of Winchester and Elizabeth Capel.

John Paulet's Early Life and Titles

John Paulet was known by different titles throughout his life. From 1539 to 1550, he was called The Honourable John Paulet. He then became Lord St John from 1550 to 1551. Later, he was known as the Earl of Wiltshire between 1551 and 1555.

In 1544, King Henry VIII made John Paulet a knight. This happened in Boulogne, France.

Loyalty During Royal Changes

After King Edward VI died, John Paulet first supported Lady Jane Grey as queen. However, he soon changed his loyalty to Queen Mary. This was a time of many changes in who ruled England.

Becoming Marquess of Winchester

His third wife was Winifred Brydges. They married before September 1568. Winifred was the widow of Sir Richard Sackville.

His Final Years

John Paulet passed away in Chelsea on 4 November 1576. He was buried at St. Mary's Church in Basing, Hampshire. His wife, Winifred, died in Chelsea in 1586 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
