Henry FitzJames (born August 6, 1673 – died December 16, 1702) was a special person in English history. He was the son of King James II of England. His mother was Arabella Churchill, who was the sister of the famous Duke of Marlborough. Henry was given the title of 1st Duke of Albemarle, but this title was only recognized by a group called the Jacobites.

Early Life and Family
Henry FitzJames was born in St. James's Square, Westminster, England. This area was part of Middlesex county at the time. He had several brothers and sisters. One of his brothers was James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick, who became a famous military leader in France.
Henry also had two sisters. One was Henrietta FitzJames. The other was named Arabella FitzJames, just like their mother. Arabella later became a nun, which is a woman who dedicates her life to religious service.
Marriage and Daughter
On July 20, 1700, Henry FitzJames married Marie Gabrielle d'Audibert de Lussan. She was the daughter of a French nobleman. Henry and Marie Gabrielle had one daughter together. Her name was Lady Christine Marie Jacqueline Henriette FitzJames.
Christine was born on May 29, 1703, in Bagnols sur Cèze, France. She was born after her father, Henry, had passed away. Like her aunt, Christine also chose to become a nun later in her life. Henry's wife, Marie Gabrielle, later remarried in 1707.
His Special Titles
Duke of Albemarle
Henry FitzJames was given the title of Duke of Albemarle by his father, King James II. This happened on January 13, 1696. Along with being a Duke, he was also given the titles of Earl of Rochford and Baron Romney.
However, these titles were not officially recognized by the English government at the time. They were only recognized by the Jacobites. The Jacobites were people who supported King James II and his family, even after he was no longer king.
Grand Prior of the Knights of Malta
Henry FitzJames also had another important role. He was appointed the Grand Prior of the English Commandery of the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. This group is often called the Knights of Malta. They are a very old and famous group of knights. Being a Grand Prior meant he was a leader in this special order.
