Hera Hilmarsdóttir, known as Hera Hilmar, is an actress from Iceland. She was born on December 27, 1988. Hera started acting when she was a child in 1995. She has been working in movies and TV shows ever since.
About Hera Hilmar
Hera's parents are also involved in films. Her father, Hilmar Oddsson, is a film director. Her mother, Thorey Sigthorsdottir (Icelandic: Þórey Sigþórsdóttir), is an actress. Her grandfather, Oddur Björnsson, was a writer and director for plays.
Hera studied acting in London. She graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2011.
Hera's Acting Career
Hera has won several awards for her acting. In 2007, she was nominated for an Edda Award for her role in The Quiet Storm. This award is a big honor in Iceland.
She won the Edda Award twice later on. First, in 2015, for her part as Eik in Life in a Fishbowl. Then, in 2017, for her role as Anna in The Oath. She was also recognized as one of Europe's "Shooting Stars" in 2015. This happened at the Berlin International Film Festival. She also received a special mention at the Zurich Film Festival for Life in a Fishbowl.
In 2013, Hera joined the TV show Da Vinci's Demons. She played Vanessa Moschella, a character from Florence. She was a barmaid and sometimes a model for Leonardo.
Hera appeared in the movie The Ottoman Lieutenant in 2015. She played Lillie Rowe, a young nurse. Around the same time, she acted in An Ordinary Man. In this film, she played Tanja, a Serbian agent. This movie was released in 2017. In 2016, Hera also starred in The Ashram.
In 2017, Hera got a big role in Peter Jackson’s movie, Mortal Engines. This film is based on a popular book. She auditioned for the role using Skype. The writers thought her audition was perfect. She played the main character, Hester Shaw. Filming for Mortal Engines took place from April to July 2017. The movie was released in December 2018.
In 2018, Hera was cast in the TV series The Romanoffs. Later that year, she joined the Apple TV+ show See. In See, she plays Maghra, the wife of Baba Voss. Baba Voss is played by Jason Momoa.
During the pandemic, Hera worked on short films. These included Last Dance and Óskin (which means “The Wish”). She also played the main role, Helga, in the movie A Letter from Helga. This film is based on a book. Hera also narrated a video. This video showed the new crest for the Icelandic national football team.
In 2024, Hera starred in a Canadian thriller movie called Hangashore.
