Hideo Sakai (堺井 秀雄, Sakai Hideo, June 10, 1909 – June 3, 1996) was a Japanese football player. He was born on June 10, 1909, and passed away on June 3, 1996. Sakai played as a forward, which means he was one of the main attackers on the team. He was also a member of the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Hideo Sakai was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He played football for a team called Kwangaku Club. This club was made up of players and graduates from Kwansei Gakuin University.

While playing for Kwangaku Club, Sakai helped his team win the Emperor's Cup twice. They won in 1929 and again in 1930. He played alongside other talented players like Yukio Goto.

Playing for Japan

In May 1934, Hideo Sakai was chosen to play for the Japan national team. He joined the team for a big competition called the 1934 Far Eastern Championship Games. This event took place in Manila.

Sakai played his first game for Japan on May 13, 1934. They played against a team from the Dutch East Indies. During this competition, he also played in matches against the Philippines and the Republic of China. In total, he played 3 games for Japan in 1934.

Hideo Sakai passed away on June 3, 1996, at the age of 86. He died from a lung illness called pneumonia in Nishinomiya, Japan.
