Highland Heights is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in the United States. It is a suburb on the eastern side of Cleveland. In 2020, about 8,719 people lived there. Highland Heights is known for its motto: "The City with Pride and Promise."

History of Highland Heights

Highland Heights was first part of a larger area called Mayfield Township. It became its own city in 1967.

A famous place in Highland Heights was the Front Row Theater. This theater was open from 1974 to 1993. A very special event happened there in 1988. The musician Roy Orbison played his last concert at the Front Row Theater, just two days before he passed away.

Highland Heights was also a leader in its county. It was the first city in Cuyahoga County to make sure that all new neighborhoods had their electrical wires buried underground. They also required pretty lamp posts for street lighting.

Many adults in Highland Heights have a good education. More than half of the people over 25 years old had earned a college degree or higher. The average age of people in the city was about 48 years old.

Sports in the City

Highland Heights is home to the Stonewater Golf Club. This golf course has hosted several professional golf tournaments in the past, which brought many talented golfers to the city.

Highland Heights is part of the Mayfield City School District. This school district also serves nearby areas like Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, and Gates Mills.

The city has Mayfield's largest elementary school, called Millridge Elementary. It is also home to CEVEC, which stands for Cuyahoga East Vocational Education Consortium. This center helps students learn job skills. There is also a private school, St. Paschal-Baylon, which teaches students from preschool through 8th grade.
