The Highland Range is a small group of mountains in Clark County, Nevada. It stretches about 10 miles (16 kilometers) long. This range is located south of Henderson, Nevada.
It sits next to the McCullough Range, separated by a narrow valley. This valley is about three miles wide. The Highland Range also borders the southwest part of the Eldorado Valley. The Eldorado Valley is an endorheic basin, which means water flows into it but doesn't flow out to the ocean.
Exploring the Highland Range
The Highland Range is roughly 10 miles long from north to south. Its northern part has a ridgeline that reaches a bit into the Eldorado Valley. As you move south, the mountains get lower.
Southern Areas and Nearby Towns
The southern part of the Highland Range gradually slopes down. It ends near the mining town of Searchlight. The Eldorado Mountains are also close by, forming the eastern edge of the Eldorado Valley.
Roads and Wildlife
U.S. Route 95 is a major road that runs south through the Eldorado Valley. It passes to the east of the Highland Range on its way to Searchlight. Another road, Nevada State Route 164, goes west from Searchlight through an area called Paiute Wash.
A big part of the northern Highland Range is known as the Highland Range Crucial Bighorn Habitat Area. This special area helps protect Bighorn sheep, which are important wildlife in Nevada. It includes both the mountains and the flat, sandy areas (called alluvial plains) to the northeast, above the Eldorado Valley.
