Highland Village is a city in Denton County, Texas, United States. It's a suburb of big cities like Dallas and Fort Worth. You can find it on the south side of the western part of Lewisville Lake. In 2020, about 15,899 people lived there.

Highland Village History

Highland Village officially became a city in February 1963. Back in 1970, only 516 people lived there. But then, the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened nearby. This helped the city grow a lot! By 1980, there were 3,246 residents, and by 2010, it had grown to 15,056. Highland Village is mostly a place where people live, but more businesses are starting to open there too.

Geography and Climate

Highland Village covers about 6.4 square miles (16.87 square kilometers). About 0.9 square miles (2.54 square kilometers) of this area is water. This water mostly comes from Lewisville Lake.

Transportation Options

Highland Village joined the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) in 2003. This means residents have public transportation options. You can use the Commuter Express coach service to travel to Denton and downtown Dallas.

In 2011, the Highland Village/Lewisville Lake station opened. This station is part of DCTA's A-train, which is a commuter rail line. A commuter rail is like a train that takes people from suburbs to a city for work or school.

More recently, DCTA changed its local transportation. In 2020, they started a Lyft discount program. Then, in 2021, they launched the GoZone service. This service works with Via Transportation to provide on-demand rides around Highland Village.
