History of Highmore
Highmore got its name because it is built on high ground. The city officially started in 1882. That same year, a post office opened in Highmore, helping the community grow.

In 2010, a census (a count of the population) showed that 795 people lived in Highmore. These people lived in 347 households, and 201 of these were families.
Most people in Highmore were White (about 91.7%). There were also people who identified as Native American (6.5%), Asian (0.1%), and other backgrounds. About 1.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About a quarter of the households (24.8%) had children under 18 living with them. Nearly half of the households (47.3%) were married couples living together. Many households (39.8%) were made up of just one person. About 20.5% of households had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The average age of people in Highmore was 47.4 years. About 23.1% of residents were under 18 years old. About 26.8% were 65 years old or older. The city had slightly more females (52.5%) than males (47.5%).
