Holstein is a village in Adams County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 188 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Hastings, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Contents
History
Holstein was platted in 1887 when the Kansas City and Omaha Railroad was extended to that point. A large portion of the early settlers being natives of Germany and Denmark caused the name Holstein, after Schleswig-Holstein, to be selected.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.23 square miles (0.60 km2), all land.

2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 229 people, 95 households, and 54 families residing in the village. The population density was 930.4 inhabitants per square mile (359.2/km2). There were 102 housing units at an average density of 443.5 per square mile (171.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 99.5% White and 0.5% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.4% of the population.
There were 95 households, of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.0% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 9.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 43.2% were non-families. 36.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.94.
The median age in the village was 40.5 years. 24.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21% were from 25 to 44; 28.4% were from 45 to 64; and 16.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 57.9% male and 42.1% female.
