History of Homer
Homer was officially planned and laid out in 1874. The village was named after the famous ancient Greek poet, Homer.

- James Vincenzo Capone: He was a law enforcement officer during the time of Prohibition. He was also the older brother of the famous Al Capone.
- Alvin Saunders Johnson: He helped start and was the first director of The New School in New York. He was recognized for his achievements and added to the Nebraska Hall of Fame in 2012.
