Honeoye Creek (pronounced HUN-ee-oy) is a cool stream in western New York, United States. It's like a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. This bigger river is called the Genesee River. The name "Honeoye" comes from the Seneca people. It means "where the finger lies." This name comes from an old story. A Native American person supposedly cut off their finger here. This happened after a rattlesnake bite.

Where Does Honeoye Creek Flow?

Honeoye Creek starts its journey from the northern end of Honeoye Lake. This lake is one of the famous Finger Lakes in New York. The creek begins in a town called Richmond. This town is in Ontario County.

Journey Through Towns and Counties

The small community of Honeoye is right on the creek. Here, the creek flows under US Route 20A. As Honeoye Creek flows north, another stream joins it. This stream is called Hemlock Outlet Creek. After this, Honeoye Creek becomes a natural border. It separates Ontario County from Livingston County.

The creek then flows into Monroe County. It passes through the village of Honeoye Falls. This village is in the town of Mendon. Here, the creek creates a beautiful waterfall. After the waterfall, Honeoye Creek turns west. It finally joins the Genesee River in West Rush. This area is near the town of Avon.
