Honshū facts for kids
Honshu (which means "main region" in Japanese) is the biggest island of Japan. It's often called Japan's main island because it's so important.
Honshu is located in the middle of Japan. To its north, it's separated from Hokkaidō by the Tsugaru Strait. To the south, the Seto Inland Sea separates it from Shikoku. And to the southwest, the Kanmon Strait is between Honshu and Kyūshū.
Honshu is a very big island! It's the seventh largest island in the world. It also has the second-highest number of people living on it, right after Java island.
Honshu's Past
In March 2011, a very powerful earthquake hit the east coast of Honshu. A huge tsunami followed the earthquake, causing a lot of damage.
