Early Settlers and History
The first people to settle in this area were Orrin Maltby and Joseph Rooker. They arrived in 1856. Hope Township held its very first official meeting in 1871. A post office was also set up in May of that same year.

Hope Township is in the northern part of Midland County. It shares its northern border with Gladwin County. The township covers a total area of about 23.4 square miles (60.6 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 23.0 square miles (59.6 square kilometers), is land. The remaining 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers) is water.
Rivers and Lakes
The Tittabawassee River flows through the northwest corner of Hope Township. This river used to form a lake called Wixom Lake. However, a dam that held back the water failed in 2020. This event changed the landscape of the area.
