Hormigueros is a special area, or barrio, located in the town of Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 4,358 people lived here. There is also another important area called Hormigueros barrio-pueblo, which is the main center of the town.

A Look Back: History of Hormigueros
Puerto Rico became part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898 in 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is a U.S. territory but not a state.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that the combined population of Hormigueros and Jagüitas barrios was 965 people.
