Horstmann Peak is a tall mountain located in the state of Idaho, USA. It reaches a height of 10,475 feet (about 3,193 meters) above sea level. This makes it one of the highest mountains in the stunning Sawtooth Range.

Discovering Horstmann Peak

Horstmann Peak is the 11th tallest mountain in the Sawtooth Range. It is a part of the Sawtooth Wilderness, which is a special protected area. This wilderness is inside the larger Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Both of these areas are found in Custer County, Idaho.

Where is Horstmann Peak Located?

This impressive peak is not alone. It is located about 1.85 miles (3 kilometers) south-southeast of a taller mountain called Mickey's Spire. Mickey's Spire is considered its "parent peak" because it is higher and Horstmann Peak is part of the same mountain mass. Horstmann Peak is also about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) south of Thompson Peak. Another peak, Braxon Peak, is about 1.35 miles (2.17 kilometers) to the north.

How Can You Climb Horstmann Peak?

The easiest way to reach the top of Horstmann Peak is by a method called Scrambling. Scrambling is like a mix of hiking and easy rock climbing. It means you might need to use your hands to help you climb over rocks and steep sections, but it's not usually as difficult as technical rock climbing. The difficulty is rated as class 3, which means it's a relatively easy climb for experienced hikers.
