Exploring Houpt: A Tiny Minnesota Community
Houpt is a quiet, unincorporated community. This means it's not a city or town with its own mayor or city council. Instead, it's a small collection of homes and people. It's part of Nore Township in Itasca County.
Where is Houpt Located?
Houpt is found in the northwest corner of Itasca County. It sits right between two other small towns, Northome and Blackduck. You can find it where a main road, U.S. Highway 71, crosses Bowman Road. A river called the South Cormorant River also flows through this quiet community.
Other nearby places include Funkley, Orth, Bergville, and Alvwood. Houpt is about seven miles southwest of Northome. It's also about nine miles northeast of Blackduck. It's 15 miles northwest of Alvwood. The borders of Itasca, Beltrami, and Koochiching counties are very close by.
A Look at the Past
Even though Houpt is small today, it once had its own post office. This post office served the community for a short time, from 1903 to 1914. Today, people in Houpt use ZIP codes from nearby towns. Some use 56630, which belongs to Blackduck. Others use 56661, which belongs to Northome.
