Hrysopiyi "Piyi" Devetzi, born on January 2, 1976, is a retired Greek athlete. She was famous for competing in two exciting events: the triple jump and the long jump. Piyi was born in Alexandroupoli, Greece.

Amazing Achievements

Piyi Devetzi was a very talented athlete. She won a silver medal in the triple jump at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Her jump was an amazing 15.25 meters! She also earned a bronze medal in the triple jump at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, with a jump of 15.23 meters.

During the 2004 Summer Olympics, Piyi set a new Greek record with a jump of 15.32 meters. This incredible performance made her one of the top triple jumpers of all time. She was ranked fourth in the world, behind famous athletes like Inessa Kravets, Tatyana Lebedeva, and Françoise Mbango Etone.

Piyi also won a silver medal at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. She nearly won the gold, but Tatyana Lebedeva made a slightly longer jump on her very last try. Something similar happened at the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain, where Yargelis Savigne took first place on her final jump.

Piyi was known for often jumping further in the qualifying rounds than in the final competitions. Even though she didn't always win gold at major events, she was one of the best female triple jumpers in the world. She was even named the Greek Female Athlete of the Year four times, from 2005 to 2008!

Rule Violations

In 2009, Piyi Devetzi faced some issues regarding athletic rules. She did not provide a sample for a required test. Because of this, she received a two-year ban from competing.

Later, in 2016, some of her older samples from August 2007 were retested. These retests showed that she had used a substance that was not allowed. As a result, many of her competition results from 2007 onwards were changed. This included her bronze medal from the 2008 Olympics and her bronze medal from the 2007 World Championships, which were both officially removed from her record.

On November 17, 2016, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) officially disqualified Piyi from the 2008 Olympic Games. They took away her Olympic bronze medal and removed her long jump and triple jump results from the records because of the retest findings.
