History of Hull, Georgia
When Was Hull Established?
The city of Hull was officially made a town in 1905. This was done by the Georgia General Assembly, which is Georgia's main law-making group.
How Did Hull Get Its Name?
It is believed that Hull was named after Reverend Hope Hull. He was a well-known leader in the Methodist Church.

Where is Hull Located?
Hull is found in the southwestern part of Madison County. It is very close to Clarke County on its southwest side. The big city of Athens is right next door in Clarke County.
How to Get Around Hull
Georgia State Route 72 is a main road that goes right through the middle of Hull. If you go southwest on this road for about 6 miles (10 km), you'll reach the center of Athens. If you go east-northeast for about 5 miles (8 km), you'll get to Colbert.
Land and Water in Hull
Hull covers an area of about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny bit, about 0.31%, is water. The city is built on a raised area of land called a ridge. Water from this ridge flows into two creeks: South Creek to the north and Sulphur Spring Branch to the south. These creeks are part of the Broad River system, which eventually flows into the Savannah River.
Why is Hull Called "The Well City"?
Hull has a special nickname: "The Well City." This name comes from a very old water well located right in the center of town. It has been there for a long time.
