History of HEB ISD
Before HEB ISD started, there were other schools in the area. Some of these included Bedford College, Bedford School, and Euless School.
Mosier Valley School
The Mosier Valley School was part of the Euless School District. It first opened in 1883. This school closed in 1949 because its building was in poor condition. In 1950, a judge decided that the Euless School District needed a separate school for African-American students. So, the old Mosier Valley School building was used again for one year. In 1951, Mosier Valley School moved into a new, stronger brick building.
Forming HEB ISD
The Euless and Hurst school districts joined together in 1955. This new Hurst-Euless School District had 1,418 students. It grew quickly, reaching almost 2,300 students in just two years. In 1958, people living in the Bedford School District voted to combine with the Hurst-Euless School District. This is how HEB ISD was formed! In its first year, HEB ISD had 3,116 students and seven schools.
Students in HEB ISD
In 2016, the HEB ISD school district had 22,780 students. That year, 85% of HEB ISD students scored well on their tests. This was higher than the average for nearby schools (77%) and for the entire state of Texas (75%). Schools in HEB ISD are also very diverse. They have students from more different backgrounds than almost any other school in the United States.
