Hwang Kyo-ahn (Hangul: 황교안; born 15 April 1957) is a South Korean politician and former prosecutor. He served as the acting President of South Korea from 2016 to 2017. Before that, he was the Prime Minister of South Korea from 2015 to 2017.
Hwang also worked as the Minister of Justice from 2013 to 2015 under President Park Geun-hye. He was involved in an investigation into a plot to cause trouble in South Korea in 2013. This led to a conviction and a political party being dissolved. In May 2015, President Park Geun-hye chose him to be Prime Minister. He officially started this job on 18 June 2015.
On 9 December 2016, President Park Geun-hye was removed from office by the country's parliament, the National Assembly. Hwang then took on the role of Acting President of Korea. He held this position until a new president, Moon Jae-in, was elected on 9 May 2017.
In January 2019, Hwang joined the Liberty Korea Party. He was chosen as its leader on 27 February 2019. When the Liberty Korea Party joined with other groups to form the United Future Party on 17 February 2020, Hwang continued as the leader. After his party lost many seats in the 2020 election, Hwang resigned as party leader.

On 9 December 2016, the National Assembly voted to remove President Park from office. Hwang then took over her presidential duties as Acting President. On 10 March 2017, South Korea's highest court, the Constitutional Court of Korea, confirmed the decision to remove President Park.
Because of this, Hwang continued as Acting President until new elections could be held. The constitution required new elections within 60 days. Hwang said he felt a "deep responsibility" when he took on the presidential powers.
His first visit as acting president was to the country's military headquarters in Seoul. He stressed the importance of national security. He said that North Korea might cause trouble near the border.
Hwang decided not to run in the 2017 presidential election. He felt it was better to focus on his role as Acting President. He was seen as a strong candidate for conservative voters. His decision meant they had to find another person to challenge the leading candidate, Moon Jae-in.
He resigned as Prime Minister on 11 May 2017, after the new president was elected.

In the 2020 elections held on 15 April, Hwang ran for a seat in the Jongno district of Seoul. This area includes important government buildings. Hwang's party lost many seats in the election, and he also lost his own election in Jongno. He resigned from the party leadership on 15 April, soon after the election. After the 2020 elections, Hwang took a short break from politics.
