I.M. Meen is an exciting educational video game from 1995. It was made for computers running DOS. The game helps kids learn grammar in a fun way. In I.M. Meen, you explore a huge maze. Your mission is to save trapped children and defeat scary monsters. To rescue the children, you must fix grammar mistakes in special "scrolls." The game was created by Animation Magic, a company known for other adventure games.

The Story of I.M. Meen

The game's villain is Ignatius Mortimer Meen. He is an evil magician who hates kids and learning. I.M. Meen creates a magic book. This book sucks children inside when they read it. The kids are then taken to a giant labyrinth. Inside, monsters guard them in locked cells.

You play as two children named Scott and Katie. They are also trapped in this maze. Gnorris, a friendly gnome, helps them escape. Gnorris used to work for I.M. Meen but now helps you. He gives Scott and Katie a magic orb. This orb lets him talk to them anytime. Gnorris gives helpful hints as you play. He also warns you when a big boss monster is near.

Your goal is to travel through the labyrinth. You must defeat the monsters and rescue all the trapped children. As you save more kids, the labyrinth starts to fall apart. Eventually, you will face I.M. Meen himself. You must defeat him using a special item. This item is called Writewell's Book of Better Grammar. I.M. Meen stole this book and hid it. After you defeat him, the magician promises to get revenge. Then he disappears, vowing to return.

How to Play I.M. Meen

The game has 36 levels to explore. These levels are spread across nine different places. You will visit a tower, a dungeon, sewers, and caves. There are also catacombs, hedge mazes, castles, laboratories, and libraries. To move to the next level, you must rescue all the children on your current level. You do this by finding scrolls and fixing their grammar mistakes.

Every four levels, you will face a powerful boss monster. These are I.M. Meen's special pets. You must defeat them to unlock new areas. You can find useful items in the labyrinth. These items help you defeat monsters and solve challenges.

You have an Agility Meter, which is like your health bar. If it runs out, you go back to the start of the level. You also lose any items you collected on that level. Near the end of the game, you must fight I.M. Meen. Only Writewell's Book of Better Grammar can hurt him. Other weapons won't work. When you defeat him and solve the last scroll, you win the game!

I.M. Meen's Impact

A sequel to I.M. Meen was made. It is called Chill Manor. This game features I.M. Meen's presumed wife, Ophelia Chill. She gets the Book of Ages and tears out its pages. This lets her rewrite history. I.M. Meen appears at the end of Chill Manor. He comes to rescue Ophelia after she is tied to a chair.

I.M. Meen has also inspired other games. It is named as an inspiration for the popular indie game Baldi's Basics. Other games like Sonic's Schoolhouse and 3D Dinosaur Adventure: Save the Dinosaurs also inspired Baldi's Basics.
