International General Certificate of Secondary Education facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or IGCSE, is an important international exam for students around the world. It is usually taken by young people aged 14 to 16. This exam helps students get ready for more advanced studies, like A-Levels and AS-Levels. The IGCSE is seen as being just as good as the United Kingdom's GCSE exams.

IGCSE courses cover many different subjects. These include Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Creative Arts, and Technical subjects.

Most subjects can be studied at two levels: an easier level and a harder level. This means the IGCSE is suitable for students with different learning abilities. It is also designed to be good for students whose first language might not be English. This is shown in all the IGCSE tests.

What Subjects Can You Study?

There are many different subjects you can choose to study for your IGCSE. These subjects cover a wide range of topics, so you can find something that interests you!

You can study:

  • Languages: Like English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and many more. You can often study them as a first or second language.
  • Sciences: Such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. There are also combined science options.
  • Mathematics: Including regular Mathematics and additional, more advanced math.
  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Like History, Geography, Economics, and Business Studies.
  • Creative and Technical Subjects: Such as Art and Design, Drama, Music, Computer Studies, and Design & Technology.
