I Need My Monster is a fun picture book for kids. It was written by Amanda Noll and illustrated by Howard McWilliam. Flashlight Press first published the book in 2009.
Since it came out, I Need My Monster has been translated into many languages. These include Korean, German, Hebrew, Ukrainian, and Chinese. Scholastic Book Club also released a paperback version.
In 2013, Pony Tale made an interactive app based on the book. Later, in 2014, a popular children's reading website called Storyline Online filmed Rita Moreno reading I Need My Monster. Rita Moreno is a famous actress known for West Side Story.

About the Story
The book is about a boy named Ethan. He loves sleeping with his favorite monster, who lives under his bed. This monster helps him sleep soundly every night.
But one night, Ethan looks under his bed and finds a note. The note says his monster, Gabe, has gone fishing. It also says Gabe will be back in a week.
Ethan tries to find other monsters to take Gabe's place. Many different monsters appear under his bed. But none of them are quite right. Ethan really misses Gabe and wants his own monster back!

Hey, That's MY Monster!
A sequel to the book, Hey, That's MY Monster!, came out in 2016. In this book, Ethan has a new challenge. His little sister won't stay in her bed. Ethan tries to find a monster scary enough to help her fall asleep.
In 2017, Lily Tomlin read Hey, That's MY Monster! for Storyline Online. Lily Tomlin is another well-known actress.
Are You My Monster?
In 2019, Flashlight Press published Are You My Monster?. This is a board book for babies and toddlers. It features the same monster-loving boy from the other books. He is looking for a monster that matches his drawing. He describes his monster as green, with a long tail, pointy nails, and big teeth. He checks out many funny monsters until he finds the perfect one. It turns out to be his favorite stuffed monster toy!
How I Met My Monster
A prequel, which tells a story that happened before I Need My Monster, was released. It is called How I Met My Monster. This book came out on November 1, 2019.
