People likely started settling in the Ida area after the American Civil War ended. The first church, Munnerlyn Chapel, was built in 1877. A school house followed in 1883.

The population grew more after a post office was built in 1897. In 1905, the Ida Methodist Church was constructed. This church still serves the community today, even though its bell tower was removed. Ida officially became a village in 1967.

Where is Ida?

Ida is located in Caddo Parish, very close to the border with Arkansas. US 71 goes right through the village. If you go north on US 71 for about 34 miles, you'll reach Texarkana, Arkansas. If you go south for about 36 miles, you'll get to Shreveport.

I-49 runs next to US 71 between these two cities. It goes around Ida, but there's an exit (Exit 245, LA 168) that leads right into the village. The village covers an area of about 3.6 square kilometers (1.4 square miles), and it's all land.

One interesting place in Ida is the Capt. Fletcher E. Adams United States Air Force 357th Fighter Group Museum. It's located on East Magnolia Avenue in the middle of town. Captain Adams was a famous pilot during World War II. He was known as a "flying ace" because he shot down many enemy planes.

The building where the museum is now used to be the Ida post office from 1923 to 1962. In 1997, it became the Ida Museum, and in 2010, it was renamed to honor Captain Adams.
