Where is Image Flat?
Image Flat is a rural area. It's found just outside the town of Nambour. The land here is used for different things. Some areas have homes, while others are used for grazing animals. This means it's a mix of country living and farming.
A Look Back in Time
Image Flat has been a farming area for a long time. It was given its name before the year 1896. In 1901, a government office opened there.
During the 1910s, people grew vegetables in market gardens. Farmers also grew sugar cane and raised dairy cows. Later, because the area was free from frost, they started growing bananas. At one time, many people from Finland lived here.
Sugar Cane Tramway
In the late 1890s, a special tramway was built. It was used to carry sugar cane. This tramway ended at Image Flat. By 1903, the line was made longer. It had a very steep section. Horses pulled the cane trolleys along this part. Later, a locomotive picked up the trolleys for the Moreton Central Sugar Cane Company.
Farmers wanted the line to be extended even more in 1923. However, pests and diseases affected the sugar cane in 1924. In 1954, a disease called Panama disease also affected banana crops.
Bringing Electricity
In 1951, a group of people formed a committee. They wanted to bring electrical light and power to Image Flat. This idea had actually been suggested by a Nambour committee back in 1923.
