Incredicoaster at RCDB |
The Incredicoaster is a thrilling steel roller coaster at Disney California Adventure park. You can find it in Anaheim, California. It was built by a company called Intamin. The ride first opened on February 8, 2001, and was known as California Screamin' back then.
This coaster is special because it's the only one at the Disneyland Resort that goes upside down. It's also the fastest ride in the park, reaching speeds of 55 miles per hour! At 6,072 feet long, it's one of the longest roller coasters in the world that includes an inversion. It's also the tallest roller coaster at any Disney park, standing 122 feet high.
California Screamin' closed in early 2018 for a big change. It reopened on June 23, 2018, as the Incredicoaster. This new version is inspired by the popular movies The Incredibles (from 2004) and Incredibles 2 (from 2018). The ride's opening was part of the new Pixar Pier area in the park. The tunnels on the ride do more than just hide cool scenes with the characters. They also help keep the loud screams of riders inside the park. This way, the sounds don't bother people living in nearby Anaheim and Garden Grove.
History of the Coaster
The Incredicoaster was originally designed by experts at Ingenieurbüro Stengel GmbH. It was built by Intamin. When it opened as California Screamin', it was one of the longest steel coasters in the United States. It was also the longest ride with an inversion.
Instead of a traditional lift hill chain, this coaster uses special magnets called linear synchronous motors (LSMs). These powerful motors launch the train up the first hill. They also help propel the train midway through the ride. The Incredicoaster is one of the fastest rides at Disney Parks. It can go from zero to 55 miles per hour in just four seconds!
Like many Disney rides, California Screamin' had its own music. This soundtrack was created by Gary Hoey and George Wilkins. For a short time in 2007, the music changed. It played a remixed song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the ride was called Rockin' California Screamin'. This was part of a special event that also changed Space Mountain at Disneyland.
The safety announcements on the ride were first voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. Later, in 2010, the voice changed to Neil Patrick Harris. He also recorded the countdown before the launch. There are many speakers on each train, including some in the headrests. This helps riders hear the music and announcements clearly.
After a big update to Disney California Adventure between 2007 and 2012, the Mickey Mouse head behind the vertical loop was changed. It became a sunburst symbol with the Paradise Pier logo.
On November 2, 2017, Disney announced that Paradise Pier would be completely updated and renamed Pixar Pier. California Screamin' closed on January 8, 2018, to become the Incredicoaster. The new theme was inspired by Pixar Animation Studios' The Incredibles movies. The Incredicoaster officially opened on June 23, 2018.
Your Incredible Ride Experience
Before you even get on the ride, you'll see TV screens. They show interviews with the Incredibles family and Edna Mode. They are talking about the ride becoming the Incredicoaster. While they chat, Jack-Jack, the baby, starts using his unpredictable superpowers! This makes his family a bit frustrated, but Edna finds it amusing.
As you get into your ride car, Elastigirl asks Edna to watch Jack-Jack. But moments later, Edna announces that Jack-Jack has escaped! The Incredibles then zoom around the ride trying to catch him. Jack-Jack uses his many powers to "attack" different parts of the coaster as your train moves.
Once you're in the launch area, Dash gives a countdown. Then, your train shoots forward at 55 miles per hour! You enter the first "scream tube" with glowing red water jets. This makes it look like Dash is using his super speed to catch Jack-Jack. Inside this tube, Jack-Jack shoots lasers from his eyes.
After the first tube, the train goes down a drop and up a hill. It then slows down on a brake run. The track circles around the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind ride. Then, it goes under the outbound track and climbs the main lift hill. The LSMs push the train up this hill.
As the train reaches the top of the hill, it enters a second tunnel. Here, Elastigirl tries to stretch and grab Jack-Jack. He is phasing in and out of the tunnel wall! After this, Mr. Incredible has smashed through a wall. He tries to catch Jack-Jack by offering him a cookie. Then, your train drops out of the tunnel.
Next, the ride makes a turn and dives into the big vertical loop. After going upside down, the train speeds through a third tunnel. Jack-Jack has set this tunnel on fire with his powers! Luckily, Violet creates an invisible force field to put out the flames and keep everyone safe. You then make another loop around the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind.
After another brake run, the track goes over several "airtime hills." These hills make you feel like you're floating! You cross over the Toy Story Midway Mania ride. Here, Jack-Jack uses his power to multiply, and dozens of Jack-Jacks appear everywhere! Finally, after a downward spiral, the train reaches the last brake run. Jack-Jack is safe, but he's grown much bigger! Edna calms him down by giving him a cookie.
