Industrial civilization is a term for the way human society has developed since the Industrial Revolution. It means a time when people started using powerful machines a lot. These machines changed how we live and work.

When a place changes from an old-fashioned society to one with lots of factories and machines, we call that industrialisation. This happened at different times around the world. As industrial civilization grew, some places started to focus on other things. They might have become a service economy (where people provide services, like teaching or healthcare) or an information society (where computers and data are key). Even these societies still rely on factories for goods. Today, we often call our time the Information Age.

Industrial civilization has led to huge changes. The world population grew a lot because of better farming machines and new modern medicine. People's standard of living also improved, meaning they had better homes, food, and healthcare.

This type of civilization mostly uses fossil fuels like coal and oil for energy. But now, people are working hard to find alternative energy sources. Sometimes, factories in a region might close down or be replaced by newer ways of doing things. This is called de-industrialization.

What is Industrial Civilization?

Industrial civilization describes the whole way we live now. It's not just about factories. It includes all the different parts of society that came after the big changes of the Industrial Revolution. Think of it as a huge network where different places specialize in different things.

For example, one country might make cars, while another focuses on computer software. They all depend on each other through international trade. Even if a country doesn't have many factories, it still relies on industrial civilization for its goods and food.

How It All Started

The Industrial Revolution was a major historical event. It was the beginning of industrial civilization. This period, starting in the late 1700s, brought new inventions and ways of making things. It led to factories, steam engines, and many other changes.

After the Industrial Revolution, the world kept changing. We saw the rise of mass production, where many identical items are made quickly. Then came information technology, like computers and the internet. These new technologies allowed for the growth of the service economy and the information society.

Becoming Industrialized

Industrialisation is the process of a specific area or country becoming industrial. It means that area starts to build factories and use machines. It changes from mostly farming to making goods.

Industrial civilization is bigger than just one place industrializing. It's the global system that connects all these different areas. Some parts of this civilization might still be industrializing. Others might have already specialized in services or information. But they are all part of the same big system that started with the Industrial Revolution.
