Bufo quadriporcatus Boulenger, 1887

The Ingerophrynus quadriporcatus is a type of toad that belongs to the Bufonidae family. People also call it the long-glanded toad, four-ridged toad, or greater Malacca toad. You can find this toad in places like Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo (including Sabah, Brunei, Sarawak, and Kalimantan), Sumatra, and the Natuna Islands.

These toads usually live in swamp forests. They have also been seen on rubber plantations. They like to lay their eggs in still water.

About the Four-Ridged Toad

Appearance and Size

Male Ingerophrynus quadriporcatus toads grow to be about 48 millimeters long. This is measured from their snout to their rear end. Female toads are a bit bigger. They can grow to be between 53 and 63 millimeters long.

These toads have a clear tympanum, which is like an eardrum. Their back and sides are usually dark or light brown. The color is often plain, without any special patterns. Their belly is yellowish-brown and might have some dark spots. The skin on their head and body has many small, cone-shaped bumps.

Habitat and Life Cycle

The Ingerophrynus quadriporcatus toad prefers to live in swamp forests. These are wet, forested areas. They have also adapted to live in places like rubber plantations.

When it's time to reproduce, these toads need water. They lay their eggs in standing water. This means water that is not flowing, like puddles or ponds.

Protecting the Long-Glanded Toad

Ingerophrynus quadriporcatus toads can be common in places with suitable swampy habitats. However, they are not found in huge numbers everywhere.

These toads face threats to their homes. Their habitat loss is caused by things like new oil palm plantations. Building new roads and other structures also takes away their living space. Logging, which is cutting down trees, also harms their forest homes.
