Inner North Coast Ranges facts for kids
The Inner North Coast Ranges are a group of mountains and hills in northern California. They are called "inner" because they are farther away from the Pacific Ocean compared to other mountain ranges closer to the coast. The mountains closer to the ocean are often bigger.
Where Are the Inner North Coast Ranges?
These inner mountains and hills stretch across northern California. They start near a town called Anderson, California in the south part of the High North Coast Ranges. From there, they go south, ending west of the Russian River.
Plants and Trees of the Ranges
The Inner North Coast Ranges are home to many interesting plants and trees. Early scientists studied the different types of plants found here. For example, you can find large pine trees like the Yellow Pine (Pinus ponderosa ) and the Sugar Pine (Pinus lambertiana ). These tall trees are an important part of the forests in these mountains.
