Club History

Iraurgi was founded in 1975. Its name comes from the Iraurgi valley, which is located between the towns of Azpeitia and Azkoitia. In its early years, the club played in local competitions in the region of Gipuzkoa.

Joining National Leagues

In 2005, the men's team started playing in a national competition. This was the Liga EBA, which is a lower-level national league. The team improved over time. In 2009, they got to play in the promotion playoffs for the first time. These playoffs decide which teams move up to a higher league.

They tried again in 2010 and successfully moved up to LEB Plata. This is a higher division than Liga EBA.

Moving Up and Down Leagues

After their first season in LEB Plata (2010–11), the men's team finished last. However, they were able to stay in the league because some spots were open.

Six years later, on April 15, 2017, the team won the title of the 2016–17 LEB Plata season. This big win meant they moved up to LEB Oro. LEB Oro is the second-highest basketball league in Spain.

Women's Team Achievements

The women's team also had success. In 2015, they earned a promotion to Liga Femenina 2. However, the Spanish Basketball Federation did not let them join the league at first.

Later, Iraurgi's women's team did play in the first division. But they only won two out of 26 games in that season. Because of this, they were moved back down to Liga Femenina 2.
