Isabella Lövin (born 3 February 1963) is a Swedish politician from the Green Party. She has held several important roles in the Swedish government. From 2014 to 2019, she was the Minister for International Development Cooperation. She then became the Minister for the Environment from 2019 to 2021. She also served as the honorary Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden from 2016 to 2021.
Isabella Lövin was one of the main leaders, or co-spokespersons, of the Green Party from 2016 to 2021. She shared this role with Gustav Fridolin and later with Per Bolund. Before becoming a government minister, she worked as an author and journalist. She was also a Member of European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 until 2014. In the European Parliament, she focused on issues related to fisheries. She even won an award called Stora Journalistpriset for her journalism, especially her articles about fishing. In August 2020, Lövin announced that she would be leaving politics.

Early Life and Education
Isabella Lövin is the daughter of the artist Björn Lövin. She studied different subjects at Stockholm University, including film, political science, sociology, and Italian. She also attended the University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre.
Career as a Journalist
Before her political career, Lövin worked as a reporter and freelance writer for several magazines. These included Damernas Värld, Veckorevyn, Elle, and Vi Föräldrar. She also wrote articles about the environment for a newspaper called Expressen.
From 1994 to 1997, she was a reporter and producer for Sveriges Radio P1. Later, she worked as an editor for magazines like Månadsjournalen, Allt om Mat, and Leva!. In 2007, she wrote a book about fishing policy. This book was later published in English in 2012 with the title Silent seas: the fish race to the bottom.
Political Career
Member of the European Parliament (MEP), 2009–2014
Isabella Lövin was first elected to the European Parliament in 2009 as a member of the Green Party. She was re-elected in 2014. In the European Parliament, she became the vice chair of the Committee on Fisheries. She worked on important reports about how the European Union deals with fishing outside its borders. She also focused on fighting illegal fishing around the world.
In 2013, Lövin and three other MEPs tried to visit Western Sahara. However, authorities in Morocco stopped them. They were on a mission to learn about human rights in that area.
Minister for International Development Cooperation, 2014–2019
On 3 October 2014, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven appointed Isabella Lövin as the Minister for International Development Cooperation. In this role, she worked on Sweden's efforts to help other countries develop.
Green Party Co-Spokesperson, 2016–2021
On 9 May 2016, Isabella Lövin was chosen to be one of the two leaders, or co-spokespersons, of the Green Party. She took over this role from Åsa Romson.
In February 2017, Lövin became well-known internationally for a photo she shared online. The photo showed her signing a climate law document while surrounded by seven female colleagues. Lövin said that the picture showed that Sweden has a government that supports women's rights. She also said that people could interpret the photo's message in their own way.
Minister for the Environment, 2019–2021
On 21 January 2019, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven appointed Isabella Lövin as the Minister for the Environment. In this position, she was responsible for environmental policies in Sweden.
Other Activities
Isabella Lövin has also been involved with international organizations. She was an alternate member of the Board of Governors for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and the World Bank. These organizations are part of the World Bank Group and work to help countries with their economies.
