Before becoming a politician, she worked as an author and journalist. She was a Member of European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2014. In the European Parliament, she focused on issues related to fisheries. She even won an award called Stora Journalistpriset for her journalism, especially her articles about fishing.

In 2013, Isabella Lövin and three other Members of the European Parliament tried to visit Western Sahara. However, authorities in Morocco did not allow them to enter. They had planned to learn about human rights in the area.
