Isabella Lövin, born on February 3, 1963, is a Swedish politician. She was a key member of the Green Party. She held several important roles in the Swedish government.
From 2014 to 2019, she was the Minister for International Development Cooperation. This role involved helping other countries. Later, from 2019 to 2021, she became the Minister for the Environment. She also served as an honorary Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden from 2016 to 2021.
Isabella Lövin was also a co-leader, or spokesperson, for the Green Party. She shared this role with Gustav Fridolin and Per Bolund. Before becoming a politician, she worked as an author and journalist. She was a Member of European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2014. In the European Parliament, she focused on issues related to fisheries. She even won an award called Stora Journalistpriset for her journalism, especially her articles about fishing.
In August 2020, Isabella Lövin announced that she would be leaving politics. She officially left her government and party roles in 2021.

Early Life and Education
Isabella Lövin is the daughter of the artist Björn Lövin. She studied many subjects at Stockholm University. These included film studies, political science, sociology, and Italian. She also studied at the University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre.
Career as a Journalist and Author
Before her political career, Isabella Lövin worked as a reporter and freelance writer. She wrote for several magazines like Damernas Värld, Veckorevyn, and Elle. She also wrote articles about the environment for a newspaper.
From 1994 to 1997, she worked as a reporter and producer for Sveriges Radio P1. She then worked as an editor for different magazines.
In 2007, she wrote a book about fishing policy. This book was later published in English in 2012. Its title was Silent seas: the fish race to the bottom.
Political Career
Member of the European Parliament (2009–2014)
Isabella Lövin was first elected to the European Parliament in 2009. She was a member of the Green Party. She was re-elected in 2014. In the European Parliament, she became the vice chair of the Committee on Fisheries. She worked on rules for fishing outside of Europe. She also helped fight against illegal fishing around the world.
In 2013, Isabella Lövin and three other Members of the European Parliament tried to visit Western Sahara. However, authorities in Morocco did not allow them to enter. They had planned to learn about human rights in the area.
Minister for International Development Cooperation (2014–2019)
On October 3, 2014, Isabella Lövin became the Minister for International Development Cooperation. She was appointed by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. In this role, she worked on Sweden's efforts to help developing countries.
Green Party Spokesperson (2016–2021)
In May 2016, Isabella Lövin was chosen to be one of the two spokespersons for the Green Party. She took over from Åsa Romson.
In February 2017, a photo of Lövin gained international attention. It showed her surrounded by seven female colleagues as she signed a climate law document. Many people saw this photo as a message. It seemed to be a contrast to a photo of US President Donald Trump signing a document with only male colleagues. Lövin said the photo showed that Sweden has a feminist government.
Minister for the Environment (2019–2021)
On January 21, 2019, Isabella Lövin was appointed Minister for the Environment. She continued to serve under Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. In this role, she worked on environmental issues and climate change policies for Sweden.
Other Activities
- She was an alternate member on the Board of Governors for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). This is part of the World Bank Group.
- She was also an alternate member on the Board of Governors for the World Bank.
