The land where Isidro Casanova now stands was first used around 1850. German Argentine immigrants set up large cattle ranches and dairy farms here. They raised cows for meat and milk.

In 1909, a railway called the Buenos Aires Midland Railway (or Ferrocarril Midland de Buenos Aires in Spanish) reached this area. A train station named San Sebastián was opened. A place for trains to be stored and repaired, called a railyard, was built in 1910.

Then, in 1911, another station called Carhué opened. Even though the city doesn't have an exact founding day, May 15, 1911, is celebrated as its official start date.

How the City Got Its Name

Soon after the railway arrived, the first big factory in the settlement was opened. It was started by Isidro Casanova, an immigrant from Italy. After he passed away, the town was renamed in his honor.

One of the main streets in the city is called República de Portugal. This name honors the large community of Portuguese people who live in Isidro Casanova. It is the biggest Portuguese community in all of Argentina.

On August 29, 1974, the government of the province officially recognized Isidro Casanova as a city. A local historian named Alejandro Enrique wrote two books about the history of Isidro Casanova in 2010.

Sports in the City

Isidro Casanova is home to the Club Almirante Brown. This is a multi-sports club that was started in 1922. It offers different sports for people to play.
