Islington East was a special area in London that used to elect one person to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone who represents a local area in the House of Commons, which is part of the UK's government, called the Parliament. This area, or "constituency," was created in 1885. It stopped being a constituency in February 1974, when new areas were drawn for elections.

What Were the Boundaries of Islington East?
How the Area Changed Over Time
The size and shape of the Islington East area changed a few times over the years. This happened because the government updated how election areas were divided across the country.
The First Boundaries (1885–1918)
The Islington East area was first created in 1885. It was one of four parts of a larger area called the parliamentary borough of Islington. This borough was the same as the local parish of Islington. Each of the four parts was made up of smaller sections called "wards." These wards were used for local elections.
The East Division (Islington East) included two specific wards: Canonbury and Highbury.
Later Changes to the Area (1918–1974)
In 1918, election areas across Great Britain were changed again. In London, these areas were made to match the boundaries of the metropolitan boroughs that had been set up in 1900. The Metropolitan Borough of Islington was split into four election areas.
The Islington, East area now included three wards: Canonbury, Highbury, and Mildmay. These boundaries stayed the same for the next big election change in 1950.
The last time people voted in Islington East was in the 1970 general election. By the time of the next election in 1974, the area was gone. New election areas were created based on the London boroughs formed in 1965. Most of the old Islington East area became part of the new Islington Central area.
