London Borough facts for kids
A London Borough is like a special neighborhood or area within London. There are 33 of these boroughs, and each one has its own local government. This means they have their own councils and leaders who make decisions about things like schools, parks, and rubbish collection in their area. Two of these boroughs are also called "cities": the City of Westminster, where famous places like Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament are, and the City of London, which is the oldest part of London.

What are London Boroughs?
London is a very big city, so it's divided into smaller parts called boroughs. Think of them as smaller towns or districts that make up the larger city. Each borough has its own local council. This council is made up of people elected by the residents of that borough. Their job is to manage local services and make sure the area runs smoothly.
How Local Government Works
The local government in each London Borough is responsible for many important things that affect people's daily lives. These include:
- Running local schools
- Looking after parks and libraries
- Collecting rubbish and recycling
- Maintaining local roads
- Providing social care services
- Planning new buildings and developments
These councils work to improve the lives of people living in their borough. They collect local taxes, called council tax, to pay for these services.
