Ivano Bordon was born on April 13, 1951, in Marghera, Italy. He is a former Italian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Many people thought he was one of the best goalkeepers in Italy during his playing days. He had a very successful career playing for several Italian clubs.

Ivano Bordon also played for the Italy national football team. He was mostly a backup goalkeeper to the famous Dino Zoff. Bordon was part of the Italian team that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the 1978 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 1980. After he stopped playing, he became a well-known and successful goalkeeping coach. He coached for big clubs like Juventus and for the Italy national football team. He was even part of the team that won the 2006 FIFA World Cup as a coach.

Playing for Football Clubs

Ivano Bordon started his football journey in 1966 when he joined the youth team of Inter Milan. Four years later, in 1970, he played his first game for the main team. He spent most of his career with Inter Milan, playing 388 matches between 1970 and 1983.

At first, he was a backup to another goalkeeper, Lido Vieri. But soon, Bordon became the main goalkeeper for Inter Milan. He helped his team win two Serie A titles, which are top Italian league championships, in 1971 and 1980. He also won two Coppa Italia titles, which are Italian cup competitions. In 1972, he played in the 1972 European Cup final with Inter, but they lost to Cruyff's Ajax team. During the 1979–80 season, he set an amazing record for Inter Milan. He went 686 minutes without letting any goals in during Serie A matches!

After leaving Inter Milan, Bordon played for Sampdoria from 1983 to 1986. There, he won another Coppa Italia in 1985. He also played for Sanremese in 1987 and Brescia from 1987 to 1989 before he retired from playing.

Playing for Italy's National Team

Ivano Bordon played 21 games for the Italy national football team between 1978 and 1984. He took part in three major international tournaments with Italy. He was usually the backup goalkeeper for the legendary Dino Zoff.

Bordon represented Italy at the 1978 FIFA World Cup, where Italy finished in fourth place. He also played in UEFA Euro 1980, where Italy again finished fourth. The biggest highlight of his international career was being a member of Italy's team that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup. This was a huge achievement for him and his country.

Coaching Goalkeepers

After he stopped playing football, Ivano Bordon started a new career as a goalkeeping coach. He first coached goalkeepers at smaller clubs like Solbiatese and Udinese.

In 1994, he began working closely with a famous manager named Marcello Lippi. Lippi asked Bordon to help improve the skills of the goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi at Juventus. Bordon stayed with Lippi at Juventus until 1999. During this time, Juventus won many important trophies, including five Serie A titles and one UEFA Champions League title.

In 1999, Bordon followed Lippi to Inter Milan, where he worked for two years. Even when Lippi left Inter, Bordon later joined him again. First, they reunited at Juventus, and then they worked together for the Italy national football team. As a goalkeeping coach, Bordon helped the Italian national team win the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
