JT the Bigga Figga's Music Journey
Starting His Own Record Label
In 1991, when he was just 18 years old, Joseph Thompson created his own independent record label, Get Low Recordz. He began this label from his basement, showing how dedicated he was to music.
Early Albums and Big Breaks
Thompson released his first rap album, Don't Stop til We Major, in 1992. The next year, he released Playaz N the Game. A song from this album, "Game Recognize Game," became very popular. This success made many big record labels want to sign him. In 1995, he signed with Priority Records. However, his albums with Priority Records did not do as well, and he left the label in 1996.
After leaving Priority Records, Thompson went back to releasing his music through Get Low Recordz. He used the money he earned to build his own recording studio. This allowed him to create beats for other artists. In 2000, Get Low Recordz grew even more after signing a deal with Bayside Records.
Discovering New Talent
JT the Bigga Figga is known for discovering the famous California rapper The Game. Get Low Recordz released The Game's first album, Untold Story. This happened before The Game signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment.
In 2005, Thompson became an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) manager for Rap-A-Lot Records. This role meant he helped find and develop new music artists.
Working in Film and Documentaries
Thompson has also worked in films. He was in the Spike Lee movie Sucker Free City (2004). He also appeared in a documentary called SKUZZ TV (2007).
In 2006, he worked with famous rapper Snoop Dogg on a documentary DVD called Mandatory Business. This film featured other well-known people like Russell Simmons and 50 Cent.
New Ventures: Trapflix and Pan-Africanism
In 2015, Thompson started Trapflix. This is an online service that shows urban films, documentaries, and concert videos. He has since focused more on filmmaking. He also discusses Pan-Africanism (a movement that supports the unity of all Africans) on his YouTube channel, Trapflix TV.
