Music Journey
Starting a Record Label
In 1991, when he was just 17, Thompson created his own independent record label, Get Low Recordz. It began as a small operation in a basement.
Early Albums and Success
Thompson released his first album, Don't Stop til We Major, in 1992 when he was 18. The next year, he released Playaz N the Game. The song "Game Recognize Game" from this album became very popular on the radio. This success made many big record labels interested in him.
In 1995, he signed a deal with Priority Records. However, his albums released through them were not as successful. By 1996, Priority Records ended his contract. Thompson also appeared on a song called "Game Tight" for the I'm Bout It soundtrack in 1997.
Building His Own Studio
After leaving Priority Records, Thompson went back to releasing his music through Get Low Recordz. He used the money he earned to build his own recording studio. He started producing music for other artists. In 2000, Get Low Recordz grew even more after signing a deal with Bayside Records.
Discovering New Talent
In 2002, Thompson wrote an e-book called The CEO Manual. He is also known for discovering the rapper The Game. Get Low Recordz released The Game's first album, Untold Story, before The Game signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment.
In 2005, Thompson became an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) representative for Rap-A-Lot Records. This role involves finding and developing new musical talent.
Film and Documentaries
Thompson has also worked in film. He was in the Spike Lee movie Sucker Free City (2004). He also appeared in SKUZZ TV (2007), a documentary.
In 2006, he worked with Snoop Dogg on a documentary called Mandatory Business. This film featured other famous people like Russell Simmons and 50 Cent.
Trapflix and New Focus
In 2015, Thompson started Trapflix, an online service for urban films, documentaries, and concert videos. He has since focused more on filmmaking. He also discusses Pan-Africanism on his YouTube channel, Trapflix TV.
