Music and Acting Journey
Young JV first appeared on ASAP 09 in 2009. He performed with popular artists like Nikki Gil and Sarah Geronimo. His song "That Girl" was played a lot on the radio. The music video for his song "Don't Know You" was directed by Treb Monteras III. His first album had a mix of fun party songs and inspiring stories. These stories were based on his dad's experiences as a soldier.
Early Music Releases
In 2010, he promoted another song called "Shake Shake." This song was used for a dance competition. The music video showed a lively party scene. In 2011, he released "Kaibigan Lang," the last song from his first album. The video was filmed at his college and featured other celebrities.
Later in 2011, he released "Alay" from his second album. He worked with Akiko Solon on this song.
Venturing into Acting
Young JV started acting in 2011. He appeared in the romantic comedy movie Won't Last a Day Without You. He acted alongside Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson. He also performed as a supporting act for the Irish band Westlife during their tour in the Philippines.
In 2012, he starred in the TV drama Princess and I. He played Jonas de Ocampo, a character involved in a love triangle.
Second Album Success
On August 29, 2012, Young JV released his second album, Doin' It Big. This album was released under Star Music. The main song from the album, "Your Name," featured Myrtle Sarrosa. It was also used as a soundtrack for the movie 24/7 in Love. Another song from the album was "Tanong," a slow, acoustic love song. His album included collaborations with artists like Karylle and Yeng Constantino.
He performed "Your Name" with Myrtle Sarrosa at Myx Mo! 2013. The music video for "Your Name" was nominated for an award.
New Collaborations and Advocacy
In February 2013, he performed at the opening of the Himig Handog songwriting contest. He shared the stage with Zia Quizon, Abra, and Bamboo. On August 25, 2013, he released a new song called "Ngiti" (smile). This song featured the famous singer Gary Valenciano. It was the main song for his updated album, Doin' It Big: Platinum Edition.
In 2014, he participated in the third Philippine Popular Music Festival. He and Duncan Ramos sang the song "Hang Out Lang."
Recent Projects
In 2015, Young JV released "Ale," the first song from his third album, YJV. He also supported the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation's projects in Samar and Leyte. He visited their projects and held a concert for the people there. He also supported the "Green Thumb Coalition" to encourage politicians to protect the environment.
From July to September 2015, Young JV had 23 shows at SM Supermalls to promote his YJV album. His second song, "Flashback," featuring Emmanuelle, was launched in October 2015. Its music video was shown on MYX. In December 2015, he appeared as "Tony" in the TV series Pangako Sa 'Yo (2015 TV series).
In February 2016, Young JV released his third song, "Got To Have You." Its music video was popular on the Pinoy MYX Countdown. From June 2016, he was seen in the ABS-CBN show Born For You as "Mix." On August 27, 2016, he released his new song "Pasa Diyos." This song featured the famous star Vice Ganda. "Pasa Diyos" is an inspiring song and is available on iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify.
In 2017, Star Magic started calling him JV KAPUNAN. This was because he was focusing more on his acting career. He played Joshua, a vampire, in La Luna Sangre. He was also Jake in Pusong Ligaw. JV still loves writing, producing, and performing Filipino songs. He wrote the theme song for Star Magic's 25th Anniversary, "Ikaw ang Magic ng Buhay Ko." He also released his popular digital song, "Kulay," on his birthday. Its music video, featuring KissMarc (Kisses Delavin and Marco Gallo), was popular on MYX charts. JV also joined TV Patrol's TPV30 events, which celebrated the show's 30th anniversary by helping people across the Philippines.
