Ana Karylle Padilla Tatlonghari-Yuzon (born March 22, 1981), known simply as Karylle, is a talented Filipino singer and actress. She has achieved great success in theater, movies, and music. Karylle has won many awards, including four Awit Awards, an Asian Television Award, and two MTV Pilipinas Music Awards. She has also been nominated for awards at the Monte Carlo Festival and Aliw Awards.
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Karylle started her journey in theater musicals in 2000. She played many supporting roles in films and TV shows. She became very famous after playing Sanggre Alena in the fantasy series Encantadia (2005). She continued her role in later shows like Etheria (2005) and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas (2006). She also starred in the hit movie Moments of Love (2006).
Karylle returned to the stage in popular productions like Cat in the Hat (2007) and West Side Story (2008), where critics praised her performances. After moving to ABS-CBN, she appeared in TV shows such as Nasaan Ka Maruja? (2009) and Dahil May Isang Ikaw (2009).
In 2010, she was a supporting actress in the horror film Dalaw. The next year, she became a main host of the long-running noontime show It's Showtime. She also played a lead role in the Singaporean TV series The Kitchen Musical, which earned her a bronze medal at the New York Festivals and a nomination for "Best Actress" at the Monte Carlo Festival. Growing Up and School Life
Karylle was born on March 22, 1981, in Manila. Her mother is the famous singer and actress Zsa Zsa Padilla. Her father is Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari. Karylle's parents separated when she was six years old. She has two half-sisters, Nicole and Zia Quizon, from her mother's side.
Karylle went to O.B. Montessori Center – Greenhills for elementary school, where she was the top student. She finished high school at Saint Pedro Poveda College and received a Service Medal for her extra activities and volunteer work. She started ballet lessons at age three and continued until she was fifteen. For college, Karylle studied Management with a focus on Communications Technology Management at the Ateneo de Manila University, where she was an excellent student. She graduated in 2002.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting Out: 2000-2004
In 2000, Karylle began her acting journey in the stage musical Little Mermaid, playing Princess Sapphire. This role in the Trumpets production helped her become known in the entertainment world.
In 2001, Karylle started appearing on television. She became a co-host and performer on GMA Network's variety show SOP.
From 2002 to 2004, Karylle took on many supporting roles in movies and TV shows. Her first movie was Ang Agimat: Anting-anting ni Lolo in 2002. On TV, she first appeared in the drama series Twin Hearts, playing Iris. The show's producers liked her so much that they asked her to play another character, Jade. This led to more projects with actor Dingdong Dantes, including Love to Love, where she was nominated for an award. Karylle also had roles in two Mano Po movies: Mano Po 2: My Home (2003) and Mano Po III: My Love (2004).
Becoming Famous: Encantadia and ABS-CBN Move (2005-2009)
In 2005, Karylle starred in the horror film Bahay ni Lola 2, her first main role in a movie. She then became a star in the fantasy drama series Encantadia as Sang'gre Alena. This show was a huge hit! Karylle played her role again in the sequel Etheria and the movie Mulawin: The Movie later that year.
In 2006, Karylle had two big projects: Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, the third part of the Encantadia story, and the romantic film Moments of Love, which was very popular.
In 2007, Karylle starred in and produced the independent drama film Ligaw Liham. She also returned to the stage, playing the Cat in the Hat in the musical Seussical.
In 2008, Karylle hosted the reality show Pinoy Idol Extra. She then played the main female role of Maria in the musical West Side Story, which critics loved. She was even nominated for Best Stage Actress at the Aliw Awards. Later that year, Karylle made big changes in her career. She moved to ABS-CBN, a rival TV station to GMA, and signed a new recording deal. Her first appearance on ABS-CBN was on the variety show ASAP.
In 2009, Karylle starred in Mars Ravelo's Nasaan Ka Maruja? and was part of the main cast of the drama series Dahil May Isang Ikaw, which was nominated for an International Emmy. Karylle also played the lead role in the independent film Litsonero.
International Success and It's Showtime (2010-Present)
In 2010, Karylle joined the TV series Gilda Olvidado's Magkano ang Iyong Dangal?. She also started as a judge on the noontime variety show Showtime. In December, Karylle had a supporting role in the horror film Dalaw, which was a big success.
In 2011, Karylle became a regular host for Showtime. She also gained international fame for her role in the Singaporean musical drama The Kitchen Musical, which was shown in many countries. The cast won a Bronze Medal for Best Performance at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards. Karylle was also nominated for "Outstanding Actress" at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

Music Career Highlights
In 2001, Karylle started her music career with her first album, Time to Shine. Her song "Can't Live Without You" won an Awit Award for Best New Female Recording Artist and two MTV Pilipinas Music Awards. The album also featured songs with German singer Gil Ofarim and Ogie Alcasid.
In 2003, Karylle worked with the musical group Bukas Palad Music Ministry on the religious song "Awit sa Ina ng Santo Rosario," which won an Awit Award.
In 2004, Karylle released "Pagbigyan ang Puso," a duet that was the theme song for her film Mano Po III: My Love. It won "Best Original Theme Song" at the Metro Manila Film Festival.
In 2005, Karylle released her second album, You Make Me Sing. This album included songs she wrote herself and "Mahiwagang Puso," the theme song for her hit series Encantadia.
In 2009, Karylle released her third album, Time for Letting Go. This album was about moving on and featured her own songs. It was certified Platinum, meaning it sold a lot of copies!
In 2011, Karylle released her fourth album, Roadtrip. She wrote all the songs on this album, making it very personal. Its lead song, "OMG," was even featured in an American TV show.
In 2013, Karylle released "Sa’yo Na Lang Ako," a song for the Philippine Popular Music Festival. It was part of her fifth album, K, which later became a gold-certified album.
In 2015, Karylle was a judge for the Philippine Popular Music Festival. In November, she released her sixth album, A Different Playground, which reflected on her married life.
In 2019, Karylle released "Simula," the theme song for her fantasy film, Mystified.
In 2020, Karylle released The Holy Rosary: Roses for Mary, a spoken word recording of prayers.

Karylle is a talented writer and blogger. She has written for Yahoo! and was a writer for The Philippine Star and S Magazine. In 2016, Karylle also started her own blog.
Producing Films and Shows
In 2007, Karylle was a producer for the independent drama film Ligaw Liham, where she also acted.
In 2018, Karylle, along with Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, Diana Zubiri, and Mark A. Reyes, started their own production company called Sanggre Productions, Inc. Through this company, she produced the film Mystified and the miniseries B&B: The Story of the Battle of Brody & Brandy.

Karylle was in a relationship with actor Dingdong Dantes from 2005 to 2008.
On March 21, 2014, Karylle married Sponge Cola singer Yael Yuzon at San Antonio de Padua Church in Pooc, Silang, Cavite. They had been dating for over three years. They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on March 9, 2024, with a special ceremony.
