Jaboukie Young-White, born on July 24, 1994, is a talented American comedian, actor, writer, and musician. He is known for his work in comedy, television shows, and movies.
Early Life and Comedy Start
Jaboukie Young-White grew up in Harvey, Illinois. His parents moved to the United States from Jamaica. He went to Marian Catholic High School and later attended DePaul University.
At DePaul, he joined an improv comedy group called "The Titanic Players." This helped him discover his love for comedy. He left college during his senior year to focus on his comedy career full-time.
Career Highlights
Starting in Comedy and Social Media Fame
Young-White first tried stand-up comedy at an open mic night when he was 19. By age 21, he got his first paid stand-up job. He performed in many clubs in Chicago and New York City. In 2016, he was a finalist at the NYC Devil Cup Stand Up Festival.
Around 2016, some of his online posts and memes became very popular. This helped him gain a large following on social media, especially on Twitter and Instagram.
Recognized for Talent
In 2017, Rolling Stone magazine featured him on their "25 Under 25" list. This list highlighted young musicians, actors, and activists who were making a difference. The next year, Vulture included him in their "20 Comedians You Should and Will Know" list.
In 2020, he was named one of BET's "Future 40." This list celebrates inspiring young Black leaders. Young-White has also performed his stand-up comedy twice on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Writing and Acting Roles
By 2018, Young-White was a writer for the Netflix animated show Big Mouth. He also wrote for the show American Vandal. In October 2018, he joined The Daily Show as a correspondent. He worked alongside Trevor Noah and stayed with the show until 2021.
In 2019, he was in talks for a main role in a movie by Bo Burnham and Amy York Rubin.
Recent Projects (2020s)
In 2021, Young-White starred in the movie Dating and New York. He also appeared with Joaquin Phoenix in the film C'mon C'mon. He had a recurring role in the TV series Only Murders in the Building. He also voiced the main character, Truman, in the animated series Fairfax.
In June 2021, it was announced that Young-White would work with Issa Rae's company, Hoorae. They planned to turn the book The Gang's All Queer: The Lives of Gay Gang Members into a series for HBO. He was set to write and produce the show. In July 2021, news came out that he would write a script for an animated movie. This movie was inspired by the music of the late rapper Juice Wrld.
In 2022, Young-White had a recurring role in Issa Rae's TV show Rap Sh!t. He also lent his voice to the Disney+ series Baymax!. He voiced the main character, Ethan Clade, in the Disney animated movie Strange World.
Music Career
On September 30, 2022, Young-White released his first song under the name "jaboukie." He released it through Interscope Records. He released two more songs later that year.
On August 1, 2023, jaboukie announced his first album, All who can't hear must feel. The album was released on August 25, 2023.
