Story of the Internet Adventure
After their first big adventure, Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz are still best friends. They spend their evenings together at Litwak's Arcade. Ralph is happy with their life, but Vanellope wants more excitement. She feels bored with how predictable her game, Sugar Rush, has become.
One night, Ralph tries to help Vanellope by making a new track in her game. The next day, Vanellope tries out the track. But during her race, the steering wheel of the Sugar Rush game cabinet breaks!
The company that made Sugar Rush doesn't exist anymore. A replacement steering wheel on eBay is very expensive. Because of this, Mr. Litwak, the arcade owner, decides to get rid of Sugar Rush. He unplugs the game, leaving Vanellope and all the other characters homeless. Vanellope is very sad.
Journey to the Internet
With help from Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun, the Sugar Rush characters find temporary homes. Ralph and Vanellope remember eBay. They decide to travel to the Internet to find the steering wheel. The Internet is shown as a huge city with websites as buildings. People's online profiles are like avatars, and computer programs are like people.
They enter the Internet through Mr. Litwak's new Wi-Fi router. They visit a search engine called KnowsMore to find eBay. There, they accidentally bid too much for the steering wheel, winning it for $27,001! They only have 24 hours to get the money.
Earning Money Online
On their way out, they meet J.P. Spamley, who sells clickbait ads. He offers them a job to steal a car from Shank. Shank is a tough racer in a popular online racing game called Slaughter Race. Ralph and Vanellope try to steal her car. But Shank stops them, saying there are better ways to earn money online.
Shank helps Ralph make a viral video of himself. She uploads it to a video-sharing site called BuzzzTube. They meet Yesss, the head algorithm of BuzzzTube. Yesss loves Ralph's video and suggests making more. If Ralph's videos get enough views, they can earn the money for the steering wheel quickly.
Vanellope helps promote the videos. She goes to "Oh My Disney," a website where she meets the Disney Princesses. They encourage her to talk about her feelings of wanting more from life. Ralph earns enough money to buy the steering wheel.
Trouble in the Internet
Ralph finds Vanellope talking with Shank about staying in Slaughter Race. Vanellope loves the game because it's new and exciting, unlike her old game. Ralph worries he will lose his best friend forever. He asks Spamley for a way to get Vanellope out of Slaughter Race.
Spamley takes Ralph to Double Dan, a virus creator on the dark web. Double Dan gives Ralph a virus named Arthur. This virus finds people's insecurities and makes them bigger. Ralph releases Arthur into Slaughter Race. The virus copies Vanellope's glitch, which causes the game to crash.
Ralph, Shank, and others help Vanellope escape before the game resets. Vanellope thinks the crash is her fault. But Ralph confesses that he caused it. Vanellope is very angry and throws away Ralph's hero cookie medal.
Saving the Internet
Ralph feels terrible and finds his broken medal. Arthur the virus copies Ralph's own insecurities. It starts making many copies of Ralph! These clones flood the Internet in a DOS attack. They all chase Vanellope, wanting to keep her for themselves.
Ralph saves Vanellope and tries to lead the clones into a firewall. But the clones form a giant Ralph monster that grabs them both. Ralph finally understands that Vanellope can make her own choices. He lets go of his insecurities. This makes the giant Ralph monster and all the clones disappear.
Ralph and Vanellope make up. Ralph gives Vanellope half of his broken medal. They say a sad goodbye because Shank has arranged for Vanellope to stay in Slaughter Race. Back in the arcade, Sugar Rush is fixed. Ralph enjoys new activities with his arcade friends. He stays in touch with Vanellope through video chat, feeling happy and independent.
