The First Wembley FA Cup Final
John was part of the West Ham team that played in the first ever FA Cup final at Wembley. This big game was against Bolton Wanderers.
Early in the game, John went to take a throw-in. He got caught in the huge crowd near the field and couldn't get back quickly. This gave a Bolton player, David Jack, a chance to score. His shot went past West Ham's goalkeeper and hit a spectator who was standing too close, knocking them out!
Later Playing Career
In October 1924, after playing 279 league games for West Ham, John moved to Burnley. He played 22 games for Burnley. Then, in May 1925, he joined Northampton Town. Here, he became a player-manager, meaning he played and managed the team at the same time!
