John Tresadern (born September 26, 1890 – died December 26, 1959) was a well-known English professional football player and manager. He was so good that he played for the England national team two times!

Playing Football

John Tresadern started his football journey as a left-half, which is a defensive midfield position. He played for smaller clubs like Wanstead, Southend United, and Barking Town.

Time at West Ham

In July 1913, John joined West Ham United. He became a very important player for them. West Ham joined the Football League in 1919, and John was a regular player in their team.

He even played for the England team in April 1923. It was a 2–2 draw against Scotland. John wasn't happy with how he played, saying he felt like he helped Scotland more!

The First Wembley FA Cup Final

John was part of the West Ham team that played in the first ever FA Cup final at Wembley. This big game was against Bolton Wanderers.

Early in the game, John went to take a throw-in. He got caught in the huge crowd near the field and couldn't get back quickly. This gave a Bolton player, David Jack, a chance to score. His shot went past West Ham's goalkeeper and hit a spectator who was standing too close, knocking them out!

Later Playing Career

In October 1924, after playing 279 league games for West Ham, John moved to Burnley. He played 22 games for Burnley. Then, in May 1925, he joined Northampton Town. Here, he became a player-manager, meaning he played and managed the team at the same time!

Coaching and Managing Teams

John Tresadern stopped playing football in December 1926 because he broke his leg. But he didn't leave football! He continued to manage teams.

Early Managing Roles

He stayed as manager of Northampton until October 1930. After that, he became the manager of Crystal Palace. In June 1935, he moved to manage Tottenham Hotspur. However, things didn't go very well there.

In April 1938, he decided to leave Tottenham and became the manager of Plymouth Argyle. His time at Plymouth was interrupted by World War II, but he stayed with the club until November 1947.

Later Managing Roles

The next year, John became a scout for Aston Villa. A scout's job is to find new talented players for a team.

In June 1949, he became the manager of Chelmsford City. He left Chelmsford in November 1950. Then, in December 1951, he took over as manager of Hastings United.

John Tresadern became the manager of Tonbridge in April 1958. He continued in this role until he passed away in December 1959, at the age of 69.
