Jack the Giant Slayer is an exciting fantasy adventure movie from 2013. It's based on two classic British fairy tales: "Jack the Giant Killer" and "Jack and the Beanstalk". Bryan Singer directed the film. The story follows Jack, a young farm boy. He accidentally opens a path to a land in the sky. This land is home to a race of huge giants! Jack then has to save a princess from these dangerous creatures.

The movie was first thought of in 2005. It took a while to get started. D. J. Caruso was set to direct it at first. But then Bryan Singer took over in 2009. He brought in new writers to make the script even better. The main actors joined the cast in early 2011. Filming began in April 2011 in England. They filmed in places like Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Norfolk. The movie's release date was moved back. This gave them more time to work on the special effects.

Plot Summary

A Boy, a Princess, and a Legend

In the Kingdom of Cloister, a young farm boy named Jack loves stories. He is especially interested in the legend of King Erik. King Erik was an ancient hero. He defeated an army of huge giants. These giants came from a land high in the sky. At the same time, Princess Isabelle also loves this same legend. She dreams of adventure.

Ten years later, Jack goes to town. He needs to sell his horse to help his uncle's farm. In town, he sees Princess Isabelle. He is very impressed by her. He even defends her from some rude people. Meanwhile, Lord Roderick, a powerful advisor, finds his study robbed. A monk stole some magic beans from him. This monk then gives the beans to Jack. He trades them for Jack's horse. Back at the castle, Isabelle argues with her father, King Brahmwell. She wants to explore the kingdom. But her father wants her to stay. He wants her to marry Lord Roderick. Jack's uncle is also upset with Jack. He scolds Jack for being foolish. He throws the magic beans onto the floor.

The Beanstalk Grows

Isabelle wants to be free. She secretly leaves the castle. She finds shelter from the rain in Jack's house. As it rains, one of the magic beans starts to grow. It grows into a giant beanstalk! The beanstalk carries Jack's house and Isabelle up into the sky. Jack falls to the ground.

Jack, Lord Roderick, and Roderick's helper Wicke decide to join the king's knights. The knights are led by Elmont and Crawe. They all climb the giant beanstalk. They want to find Isabelle. As they climb, Roderick and Wicke do something terrible. They cut the safety rope. This causes some knights to fall and die on purpose.

Giants and a Magic Crown

At the top of the beanstalk, they find the giants' home. They decide to split into two groups. Jack, Elmont, and Crawe are in one group. Roderick and Wicke are in the other. Before they split, Roderick takes the remaining magic beans from Jack. But Jack manages to save one bean for himself.

Jack's group is soon caught by a giant. Everyone except Jack is taken prisoner. Meanwhile, Roderick's group meets two other giants. One giant eats Wicke. But before the other giant can eat Roderick, Roderick puts on a special magic crown. This crown gives him power over the giants.

Rescue and Return

Jack follows the giant to their stronghold. There, the two-headed giant leader, Fallon, has killed Crawe. Jack finds Isabelle and Elmont. They are both prisoners. The giants are about to kill them. Then, Roderick walks in. He uses the magic crown to control the giants. He tells the giants they will attack Cloister at dawn. He also tells them they can eat Isabelle and Elmont.

Jack quickly rescues Isabelle and Elmont. One giant is about to cook Elmont. The three friends run towards the beanstalk. Jack makes the giant guarding the beanstalk fall off the edge. King Brahmwell sees the giant's body. He orders the beanstalk to be cut down. He wants to stop the giants from invading.

Jack and Isabelle climb down the beanstalk. Elmont stays behind to fight Roderick. Elmont kills Roderick. But Fallon, the giant leader, grabs the magic crown. Elmont has to escape down the beanstalk. Jack, Isabelle, and Elmont all survive the fall. They land safely after the beanstalk is cut. Everyone returns home. Jack warns them that the giants are using Roderick's beans. They are growing new beanstalks to reach Earth.

The Final Battle

The giants chase Jack, Isabelle, and King Brahmwell into the castle. Elmont fills the castle moat with oil. He then sets it on fire. Fallon, the giant leader, falls into the burning moat. But he still breaks into the castle from below. The giants continue their attack. Fallon captures Jack and Isabelle. But Jack has one last magic bean. He throws it down Fallon's throat. The beanstalk grows inside the giant. It rips his body apart. Jack takes the magic crown. He uses it to send the remaining giants back to their own land.

Jack and Isabelle get married. They tell the story of the giants to their children. As time passes, the magic crown is changed. It becomes the famous St. Edward's Crown. This crown is now kept safe in the Tower of London.
