Jackson is a small town in Northampton County, North Carolina, United States. In 2020, about 430 people lived there. It is the main town, or county seat, of Northampton County. Jackson is also part of the Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina area.

History of Jackson, North Carolina
The town of Jackson started when Northampton County was created in 1741. The North Carolina Colonial Assembly chose this spot. It was a good central place for the county's courthouse. At first, people called the area Northampton Courthouse. Over time, more buildings grew around the courthouse square.
By 1762, a person named Jeptha Atherton bought the land where the courthouse stood. By 1798, the area had a tavern and a store. These were important places for travelers and local people.
In 1826, the town got its new name, Jackson. This name honored General Andrew Jackson. He was a hero from the Battle of New Orleans. Later, he became a President of the United States. Jackson became a busy place for political discussions. People debated important ideas there.
In 1825, General Lafayette visited the town. He was a famous hero from the American Revolutionary War. In the early 1800s, horse racing and breeding became very popular. Northampton County became known for its horses. A famous racehorse, Sir Archie, came to a nearby farm called Mowfield Plantation in 1816.
Several historic places in Jackson are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Amis-Bragg House, the Church of the Saviour and Cemetery, the Jackson Historic District, Mowfield, the Northampton County Courthouse Square, and Verona.

Education in Jackson
Jackson is home to Central Elementary School (CES). This school is the newest in Northampton County. It opened in the 2006-2007 school year. CES was formed by combining Seaboard Coates Elementary and Jackson Eastside Elementary schools.
The Central Services building for Northampton County Schools is also in Jackson. This building manages the local school district. The Northampton County Schools system includes seven different schools.
