Jackson is a city in Ohio, United States. It is the main town and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio. The city is about 27 miles (43 km) southeast of Chillicothe.
In 2020, about 6,252 people lived in Jackson. It is the most important city in the Jackson, Ohio micropolitan area. This area includes all of Jackson County.

History of Jackson
Jackson was founded in 1817. Residents named the town after Andrew Jackson. He was a hero in the War of 1812 and later became a president of the United States.
The town grew slowly at first. In 1840, only 297 people lived there. By 1846, Jackson had four churches, about seven stores, and one newspaper office.
Over the next 40 years, Jackson grew much faster. By 1880, the population reached 3,021 people. Two railroad lines came through the town, which helped its economy and population grow.
In 1886, Jackson had two newspaper offices, eight churches, and two banks. The biggest businesses were the Star Furnace Company and the Globe Iron Company. Each company had 30 employees. They used local coal and iron ore to make iron products.
Jackson kept growing in the 1900s. In 2000, it was the largest town in Jackson County. It had 6,184 people, which was about 20% of the county's total population. Today, many people from Jackson work at a General Mills factory in nearby Wellston, Ohio. This factory employs over 1,000 people.
Geography and Parks
The United States Census Bureau says Jackson covers about 8.49 square miles (22.0 km²). Most of this area, about 8.23 square miles (21.3 km²), is land. The rest, about 0.26 square miles (0.67 km²), is water.
Public Spaces and Attractions
Jackson has several parks for people to enjoy. These include Eddie Jones Park, Manpower Park, and McKinley Park. The city also runs the Fairmount Cemetery.
The Lillian E. Jones Museum is in a house built in 1869. It shares local history. Hammertown Lake, which is the city's water supply, has picnic areas and places for fishing.
People of Jackson
Jackson has a large number of people with Welsh family backgrounds. It has the eighth largest Welsh population in the U.S. and the fourth largest in Ohio.
The Welsh-American Heritage Museum in Oak Hill tells the story of Welsh people who moved to this area. It shows how they worked in farming, making iron, and creating clay products.

In 2010, Jackson had 6,397 people living in the city. There were 2,734 households. The city's population density was about 777 people per square mile (300 per km²).
Most of the people in Jackson were White (96.4%). Other groups included African American, Native American, and Asian people. About 1.5% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
The average age of people in Jackson was 38.1 years. About 23.8% of residents were under 18 years old. About 14.7% were 65 years or older. The city had slightly more females (53.5%) than males (46.5%).

The Jackson City Schools district runs the public schools. There are three elementary schools and one middle school. Students then go on to Jackson High School.
The city also has the Jackson City Library. It is a public library where people can borrow books and other materials.
