A Look Back: Jacksonport's History
Jacksonport used to be a very busy place. It was an important stop for steamboats on the White River. During the Civil War, the town was a key transport center. It helped move supplies for the Confederate army.
Later, Jacksonport became the end point for a railroad line. This line was first called the Batesville and Brinkley Railroad. It reached the town in November 1886. The railroad helped connect Jacksonport to other areas. It was used until 1940.
