Jacques Senard was born in Corgoloin, France. His family owned land in the Côte-d'Or region. When he was a child, he enjoyed playing the cello. He later attended a special school called the École nationale d'administration. This school trains people for important jobs in the French government.

A Career in Diplomacy

Senard started his work in foreign affairs in 1947. Foreign affairs is about how a country deals with other countries. He first worked in the press service, which handles news and information. He focused on Europe and NATO, a military alliance.

From 1967 to 1969, he worked for the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs. This person is a top leader in the foreign ministry. After that, he became the chief of protocol for President Georges Pompidou. A chief of protocol organizes official events and visits for important guests. For example, in 1972, he welcomed Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom when she visited France.

Ambassador to the Netherlands

After his work as chief of protocol, Senard became the French Ambassador to the Netherlands. An ambassador is the official representative of their country in another nation. He served in this role from 1972 to 1976.

During his time in the Netherlands, in 1974, he was briefly held hostage. This happened in The Hague. He was held for five days before being released. He continued his work as ambassador until 1976.

Later Diplomatic Roles

After his time in the Netherlands, Senard became the French Ambassador to Egypt. He served there from 1976 to 1979.

Next, he became the Inspector General of Foreign Affairs. This role involves checking how the foreign ministry operates. He held this position from 1979 to 1981.
